Getting Started
There are two ways to launch File Encryption.
  • Locate the program icon and double-click it
  • Open:  Start Menu | SafenSecure | File Encryption| File Encryption
Once the program is launched for the first time, you have two options:
  1. Restore a Backup File
  2. Creating your Safe-n-Secure account

Restoring a Backup
Restoring a backup file will overwrite your current data, so backup and restore carefully.

Restoring a backup is quick and easy with Safe-n-Secure File Encryption. There are two places to select Restore a Backup:
  1. Choose Restore Backup from the startup screen
  2. From inside the program, choose Restore Backup from the File menu
Once Restore Backup is invoked, you'll need to:
  1. Acknowledge that your file will be overwritten
  2. Locate you backup file
That's it.

Creating your User Profile
Setting up a user account with Safe-n-Secure is fast and easy. File Encryption walks your through setting up a user account and offers tips for creating a solid password.

Once you reach the product password screen, simply:
  1. Define a username
  2. Define a password
  3. Retype the password to verify
A solid password needs to be at least 8 characters in length.

Once you have completed this form, click the next button.

Once you have chosen a username and password. You need to acknowledge that this is the password you would like and that Ncode has not built a backdoor.

You must remember this password as Ncode cannot retrieve it for you .

Once you have read the warning, click the checkbox to acknowledge this fact. Once it is checked, you may signin.

Signing In
In order to access Safe-n-Secure File Encryption, you will be presented with a password screen. Simply choose the your username from the dropdown list. Then add the password for this user.

If you do not see your username, you can add it here. Simply:
  • Click the Add a New User button
  • Follow the on screen instructions

File Encryption Interface
The main feature of Safe-n-Secure File Encryption is the encrypting and managing of files. The Files area is where you manage this. You can access this area several ways:
  • From the View menu
  • From the Files button on the toolbar
There are several main areas of this screen:


Button Bar
This is where the main functions of this area are managed.

Files Window
This is where you can monitor and explore your privatized files.

Keyword Search
This is where you can easily find files you have privatized in the past.

If you choose to Privatize a New File, you would see the New File Dialog

Button Bar
Most of the functionality in the Files area can be managed from the button bar. The available functionality is:

Privatize New File
Use this to select a file to privatize. Click here to see the Select a file to Privatize dialog.

Edit Descriptive Keywords
This button is used to add, remove or adjust keywords attached to a particular file. (only available when a file is selected)

Privatize
This button is used to privatize the selected file. (only available when a file is selected and in the restored state)

Restore
This button is used to restore the selected file. (only available when a file is selected and in the privatized state)

Remove
This button is used to remove the selected file from the files window. (only available when a file is selected and in the restored state)

Send Email
This button is used to email the selected file from the files window. (only available when a file is selected)

File Window
This is where you monitor your privatized files. This window features a file's:
  • State
  • Origin date
  • File name
  • Location
  • Descriptive keywords
Some functionality tips include:


Columns are Sizable
Simply click the right side of any column title in the window to size the column.

Columns are Sortable
Simply click on a column header to sort that column ascending. Clicking it again will sort it descending.

Files can be Privatized on Exit
This button is used to privatize the selected file. (only available when a file is selected and in the restored state)

There is a Right-Click menu
Click the right mouse button while inside that window and you will discover quick access to major functionality.

Clean List
Right click inside the list window and you will discover a Clean List option. That option clears all restored files from the list.

Keyword Search
After using Privatize for a while, you can get a large list of files. Finding the file you'd like to locate can be a challenge. This window allows you to look through your files and the keywords you setup for them.

New File Dialog
This is where you select new files to privatize. From here you can:

Select the location of your file
Simply navigate throught the Windows-like nav tree to select the file which you would like to privatize. You may double click a file in the right-hand window if you need to preview the file.

Add Descriptive Keywords
This is an area to help make your files more findable. When you are adding your file, add any keywords you would like to add seperated by spaces, colons or commas.

Assign a Different Password
Use this button to create a different password for the added file for emailing to other people.

User Controls
There are two ways to access various user controls. There is a Users menu item and a Users button. These different controls allow you to:
  • Logout the current user
  • Swap users
  • Add a new user to the program
  • Change the current users password
Safe-n-Secure File Encryption allows an unlimited number of users, however each user account is private from each other and cannot be accessed without that users password. Your data is safe with Safe-n-Secure.

System Backup/Restore
There are two ways to access the system backup and restore feature. You can go under the File menu item and also use the Backup button. This feature allows you to:
  • Make a complete data backup of the current user
  • Restore a previous backup
IMPORTANT - Restoring a File Encryption backup file will overwrite any data you have for the current user.

For your protection and convenience, Safe-n-Secure also performs auto-backups of your data every 5th time you exit the program.

P-Mail
P-Mail is the fast and easy way to send encrypted files and folders to friends and collegues.

Then, your recipient can come get the free decryptor (P-Mail Reader) to open your files.


You can access this area several ways:

  • From the File menu
  • From the P-Mail button on the toolbar
There are two main email client types supported:

Email Program
This is for users who have an email client like Outlook or Outlook Express.

Web-Based Email
This option is for users who used a web-based email like Yahoo or Hotmail.

P-Mail with a Email Program
Sending a file securely encrypted is easy with an email program like Outlook or Outlook Express. Once you made the choice for an email program, you are presented with a screen to enter the relevant information.
  • Add the recipient's email address
  • Add a subject line
  • Add your email copy
Once you have completed this form, click the OK button.
Once you have entered your text, you need to select your file or folder to send via P-Mail.
  • Select the file/folder to send
  • Add a password
  • (different from your Privatize password)
  • Click OK, review your email and send
Privatize adds the line:

to the email so your recipient can open your file. Remember to provide them with the password (The P-Mail Password, Not Yours) via the phone or in person. Sending the password in the P-Mail defeats the purpose.

P-Mail with a Web-Based Program
Sending a file securely encrypted is easy with a web based email program like Hotmail or Yahoo. Once you made the choice for a web-based email:
  • Select the file/folder to send
  • Add a password
  • (different from your Privatize password)
  • Click OK, review your email and send
Once you have made your selections, click the OK button.

You then are presented with the need information to send you web-based P-Mail. Your encrypted file is saved in My Documents | My P-Mail.

To send the file, open your web-based email program. Then:
  • Add your recipient, title and message
  • Add the attachment
  • (found in My P-Mail in My Documents)
  • The add the copy for the user to get the Pmail reader
  • Send it
